Devotional Romans 5: Jesus as the Second Adam and Grace

Today’s devotional is found in the book of Romans, chapter 5, and this is what happened.

Synopsis: In this chapter, Paul explains to the Romans through a letter how we attain peace and joy in the Lord instead of wrath. Furthermore, he also explains how sin and the death of all entered the world through Adam and how, thanks to the grace of Jesus Christ, we can all obtain salvation and eternal life.

Observations

1. Jesus Christ as the second Adam. I didn’t see Jesus Christ in this way before, but after Paul’s explanation, it makes a lot of sense. When God created Adam, the world was good (that is, perfect according to God’s attributes). God Himself said every time He finished a part of creation: Light (Genesis 1:4); The land and The seas (Genesis 1:10); Plants (Genesis 1:12); The Sun, Moon, and Stars (Genesis 1:18); Birds and fish (Genesis 1:21); and Land animals (Genesis 1:25). There was no death, no evil, no curse, and no sin. But after Adam disobeyed God’s command forbidding them from eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:16–17), sin established itself in the world. Creation became cursed (Genesis 3:14, 17). That is to say, through one man’s sin the world was affected and humanity was condemned to death (Romans 5:12). However, sin can never be compared to the grace of God. For if Adam’s sin came to condemn all people to death, Jesus’ sacrifice came to bless all people (Romans 5:15). The most interesting part is that one man’s sin brought condemnation upon all, but the gift Jesus gave us came to save everyone despite a multitude of sins (Romans 5:16). Therefore, it is important that we spread the gospel of Jesus, for even though we were made sinners through Adam’s disobedience, we will be justified through Jesus’ obedience (Romans 5:19). We all know that the world is not doing well. We all have people in our lives who matter to us who will eventually die, and that is a very great loss. Therefore, just as we would help our loved ones if we knew how to solve their problems (e.g., illness, employment, marriage, etc.), we should help them receive God’s gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
