Devotional Romans 10: Christ, the End of the Law and Faith

Today’s devotional comes from the book of Romans, chapter 10, and this is what took place.

Synopsis: In this chapter, Paul, in his letter to the Romans, explains his desire (i.e., that the Israelites be saved), that Christ is the culmination of the Law so that everyone who believes may be justified, and that we must spread the gospel so that everyone can hear the good news.

Observations

These were my observations:

1. Christ is the culmination of the Law so that everyone who believes may be justified. Paul reveals in this letter his concern and his desire to see the Israelites saved (Romans 10:1). But his concern stems from the fact that the Israelites, despite showing zeal for God, do not have the right zeal based on knowledge (Romans 10:2). That is, they proclaim that they love God but do not keep His commandments. They prefer to establish their own laws instead of following the Law of God (Romans 10:3). When Jesus Christ has already fulfilled the Law, and now one only needs to repent of their sins and believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior (Romans 10:4). But because of their unbelief, they are moving further and further away from salvation. The same applies to many of us who consider ourselves Christians but continue to judge others. When we say that so-and-so is more of a sinner than I am or that their sin is worse than mine, we are appealing to a law that we created ourselves. Before God, both of us are sinners and are condemned to death (Romans 6:23). And the only thing we can do to achieve salvation is to put our faith in Jesus Christ. For whoever accepts Jesus Christ also accepts the One who sent Him (John 13:20). Therefore, we must always remember that we do not achieve salvation on our own, but rather receive it as a gift from Jesus Christ (John 3:16). Because no one obtains salvation on their own account (Ephesians 2:8–9). Thus, we should never judge others as if they were worse than us. For we are all in the same boat needing the help of Jesus Christ to receive eternal life.
2. We must spread the gospel so that everyone can hear the good news. Our mission as Christians is to keep Jesus’ commandments and spread the gospel to all corners of the world (John 14:15 and Mark 16:15). Because salvation is only possible thanks to God’s gift (i.e., He sent His only begotten Son so that all who believe in Him may be saved and have eternal life) (John 3:16). Therefore, to help as many people as possible, we must spread the gospel of Jesus. Afterwards, it is up to each individual to decide what they will do with the information: accept or reject it. For the Israelites heard the gospel, but many did not accept it due to unbelief (Romans 10:16–18). Meanwhile, those who were not known as the people of the promise accepted it (Romans 9:24–26). Because of this, our role is simply to share the information and then let the Holy Spirit do the rest (Romans 5:5). If, by chance, those to whom we bring the message do not receive us well, we can shake the dust off our feet as a testimony against them (Luke 9:5).
